I'm a gonna

I'm a gonna.....that should have been my choice of the words for this project.

Let me backtrack a bit. I own my business and things were a bit on the slow side what with the economic downturn a couple of years ago. Mentioned to one of my clients that I'd be interested in some part time work if he needed temporary help. Notice I said a couple of years ago.

Now let's fast forward to September, 2012. Still hanging on by a thread, business wise, but had enough coming in to keep busy around the first of the month. The rest of the month would be busy preparing for the Holiday Craft Fair at our Moose Lodge in October. I have never chaired an event of this magnitude before, so a lot of time went into research and reaching out to find vendors. We got a late start, but somehow managed to come up with twenty five vendors. (Phew!)

And who calls in the middle of all this. The client! Hey, we got some work for you. Can you come in for 8-10 hrs a week? Heck yes! Oh, but can you start now? NOW? Aarrgh. Well, needless to say, I didn't end up in the local mental ward, but survived the Craft Fair, the Holidays and juggling two jobs. (By the way the 8-10 hours turned into about 20 hrs a week by the end of week two.)

Don't lose hope.
(You never know what
tomorrow will bring.)

In the middle of all this fun, I saw an email asking for people to participate in the In Your Words Blog Hop. Well, here it is, my turn to post and my project isn't finished (or pressed)! The stitch I used was the Stem Stitch. Originally, I was going to frame it, but now I'm thinking a miniature quilt? I saw this image on Facebook for the Mesothelioma Center. I am thinking that this would be a nice sentiment to give someone suffering from cancer or some other long term illness.

So how about some feedback? What would you do with this? And what colors would you use for the border? Can't wait until I see all your ideas and feedback! Now, being new to blogging, I'm a gonna go and see if I can figure out how to add some "stuff" to this blog...............thanks for visiting!

  1. I love embroidery and this is beautiful. I would go with green or purple for the border to make the colors in the stitching "pop."

  2. Very pretty and love your words! Thank you for sharing.

  3. Great words! I would quilt it and hang it where I could see it everyday. I'm afraid I need to be reminded of these words often. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I love the sentiment and would do a 12" mini quilt to hand from one of those wire stands.

  5. What a great mini! Love the inspiring words. I think a green border, like you have it laying on would look nice. You are right, someone suffering with an illness would enjoy this but I think it's a great reminder to everyone. How about the hospital on one of the children's floor? What ever you decide, it will be enjoyed! Thank you for sharing it with us, awesome job!

  9. Love your words. I would put some blocks around it and quilt it. Great job.

  10. Your words are lovely. I could think of framing it with some simple squares , like four patches and then quilt it.
Thanks for sharing you busy woman

  11. I love your 'today, tomorrow' embroidery!
    Thanks for sharing!

  12. Wonderful words! I think a bright border, like the green you have it displayed on or maybe purple. It could be the center of a giant 9 patch lap quilt for someone in a wheelchair, a lovely table topper or pillow, or so many other options. No matter where it lands I think it will help someone who needs a little hope.

  13. Wonderful saying... I would use the same green as the catapiller for the border.
    Happy quilting:)

  14. Cute as a bug! I like the background fabric that you are using... a spring green, representing rebirth. Great job!

  15. i'd make a pillow out of it. thanks for sharing.

  16. Adorable in so many ways! I could see a series with this block, the butterfly flying in and out of several different blocks...pillows, framed, quilts, wall hangings...just a few ideas, for your down time. Oh, and the borders...brights! :)

  17. What a great quote! I would definitely make a wall hanging or a pillow but wouldn't it look great with some prairie points using the bright greens and blues of your thread? blessings, marlene

  20. I know exactly what you mean and am doing the same life/job/quilting juggling act.
I would make this into a wallhanging with a scrappy piano key border in greens, golds and touches of blue. It would be perfect to hang at the college where I work....hint* hint*! LOL

  21. A pillow for your couch so you would see each day... and those words are SO true!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I quite like these words. I'd suggest a small wall hanging with some perky prints that pick up the colours of the stitching.

    ReplyDelete
  23. great group of words. I to think a small wall hanging would be nice and I would make a teenie tiny pipping in the green you have there and then maybe a blue around that... can't wait to see how you finish it.

  24. Oh...I love this...it's me! I am 59 and I just got back into embroidery...especially red and blue work....is there any chance you would share this pattern with me? I have had cancer, I am in the hop today under Bits and Pieces...and I would love to embroider this and hang it on my sewing room wall so that I am reminded everyday. Thank you so much for sharing with us. I don't see a follower block to sign in to, but I am now following you by email. Have a fabulous day!

  26. It's so sweet--the caterpillar and butterfly are the perfect additions to your words. I would frame it with a floral print that included some of your colors.

    ReplyDelete
  27. You certainly are a busy lady and yet you found time to embroider this lovely little project and I think I would make it into a pillow top that the person could cuddle when things are looking bleak . Thanks for sharing .

    ReplyDelete
  31. What a beautiful image. I don't think the color will matter, but I would look for some fabric with butterflies to emphasize just how much better it can be. You are right--a great gift for someone suffering from cancer. I know just the person--maybe I will try to make one also.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Strong words! Beautifully done. Maybe pick up the green in the caterpillar in a border fabric or a brown perhaps? Whatever you choose, it will pale by the words. :D

  35. Heide ho! (I couldn't resist!) You are very generous to make a something for those who are suffering from an ugly condition. I'm sure whatever you make will be appreciated. From CA, thanks for sharing.

  36. Sounds like you are good at juggling a lot of things at once. I think your saying should be made into a mini-quilt that you could hang on the wall. Very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I just love the words! It's amazing that you even accomplished what you did--your month sounds like it was crazily busy. I think I'd add a dark border to it to make your eyes go back to the center where those special words are..but what do I know. :O)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think a bright blue and pink border would look pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  39. What a wonderful sentiment and wonderful project! I think I would add a scrap border in the colors you've used in your embroidery, because although life can give us scraps, it's up to us to make something beautiful of them!

    ReplyDelete
  40. What a sweet project. And well worth remembering thru life!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Very nice embroidery. I would sew a small inner border repeating the same gold color that you used around each motif. Then I might find a fabric that contains all or most of the other embroidery thread colors that you have used and make a larger border in that fabric. Or you could make a pieced border of some kind using the same fabric colors as your floss if you have a lot of scraps in those colors and make something like a flying geese scrappy border all around the smaller gold inner border? Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think I'd find some coordinating butterfly print to border but it would also look great without a border and just a green binding. Thanks for sharing, those critters are adorable :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great words and I think that would be a wonderful inspiration to someone who is suffering with an illness. I would border it with a batik with blues and purples. Or stretch it on a canvas type frame. I have seen a few of these lately and the pictures look so nice.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi!! It is very pretty and I love the words!!! I love the green fabric in the pic..and the blue and yellow would be great mixed in the borders!!! The words are great for everyone!!! Kind of a don't give up today because tomorrow everything could change sentiment!!!! Thanks for the fun!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Make it the center of a block, like a wonky logcabin

    ReplyDelete
  46. You could use this as a the beginning of a medallion quilt and surround it with twelve small blocks using garden, springtime, flowers and butterfly fabrics, binding with a multi-colored striped fabric on the bias.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thank you for shareing your project with us. It is vey inspiring. I think I would make it into a quilted all hanging.

  67. Those words need to be where you can see them first thing every morning and last thing at night. I think I would mat it and frame it with the help of the person doing the framing input about colors to make it pop! The saying is so true. Thanks for showing your project.

  68. That is a wonderful piece! Perfect for people going through a lot of different kinds of hardship. What a great idea. I actually like it against that green batik, but a floral with yellow, purple and that lovely spring green would be good, too.

  71. Great sentiment. I would think butterfly! I would add borders in yellow-orange then black like the Monarch butterfly. Or find a fabric that reminds you of a butterfly wing and go from there.

    ReplyDelete
  72. "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."-A proverb from the bible which your embroidered encouragement brought to mind. Sounds like you really know it from first hand experience too:) Maybe purple for the border??

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think purple for the border. Love the sentiment. Great encouragement for anyone.

  76. Heide- Great idea and what sweet stitching. This could be a wonderful stitchery pocket to make for a friend of mine in the book club that recommended "the Butterfly's Daughter" to read, so I may expand on your idea to make something similiar for a pocket for a kindle holder if that's okay with you? Thanks so much for sharing and participating in this "In Your Own Words Blog hop".
Other ideas besides what you offered alredy is the cover of a journal so they can write their feelings as they travel and morph through their experiences of cancer, divorce, death of a loved one, etc....any hardship that life throws at ya. Just a thought.
    Thanks Again. Jane

  79. Very nice! I like to fabric paint, plus I like glitter... so to finish your piece off I would grab a brush and fill in the butterfly wings with some color and top it with a bit of sparkle. Do the the same with the caterpillar... although no sparkle on him. Paint a little background behind the wording and then make a little pillow to leave lying around. Well... at least that is how I would finish it if it were mine :-)
